When people judge by outward appearance they often miss what God has put in their path. Our society tends to admire people for what they have on the outside instead of taking the time to hear what is on the inside. Appearance doesn’t reveal what people are really like or what their true value is. Fortunately, God judges us by our faith and character and not for our outward appearance. Many people spend hours and even thousands of dollars maintaining their outward appearance because they don’t want others to really see what they are missing or how they are hurting within their heart. So, they tend to look everywhere else for what they already have and they tend to put confidence in man instead of learning to just trust in the Lord.
I’ll never forget speaking to a friend of mine once when he was so excited about purchasing a house that he had found. All he talked about was how he would feel and look when he drove into that community. He said he just could’t wait to drive his car in the garage and then shut the door. I then laughed at him and said,” What are you going to do once you get the home and you can’t afford the furniture to fill the inside?” He then said,”It did not matter because he would just like the feeling of pulling into the home and what others would think when they saw him in the subdivision.” Fortunately, I was able to talk some sense into him and he backed off of that particular home.
When we are not right with God we tend to focus on our outward appearance instead of understanding the importance of being content with who we really are. For what good is something on the outside if we don’t have what it takes on the inside? I challenge you to develop what God has given you and learn how to maximize your inner character to please God instead of man.
Until we learn to understand who we are under God then we will never be happy with anything else…amen
