Several years ago I bought a model rocket for my son. He was around six years old as we sat on the floor constructing the rocket. I will never forget this lesson of life from my son that was taught to me that day. The rocket was almost complete with only the decals left to be placed. We had followed all the principles for the construction of the rocket to insure its future flight but as we began to place the decals on the rocket my son kept trying to place them in places that did not match the picture on the box.
I kept telling him,”Son, we need to do it like this to match the picture,” but he kept going against my instruction and placing them in different locations. Finally after my six year old son got aggravated with me trying to guide his actions he looked up to me and said,”Dad, why do we have to do like everyone else? Can’t we just do it our way?” This hit me like a train in the wisdom from my six year old son at the time.
I could not hold my son back any longer and I said,”You are right son we can do it our way, for it is not the look that determines how high the rocket will fly since we have followed the principles in putting it together.”
